Beneath the Snow, Dreams Are Already Taking Root
January is such a curious month, isn’t it?
There’s the buzz of fresh starts—new calendars, new goals, and, if you’re like most gardeners I know, maybe a few too many seed orders already in the cart.
But there’s also a hush.
That in-between space where the world outside seems to sleep, even as new dreams begin to stir under the surface.
And honestly? That’s exactly where I’ve found myself lately.
After an old-school winter flu knocked me flat (I’m on the mend now, thankfully), I was reminded just how powerful enforced rest can be. Frustrating? Yes. But also… surprisingly fruitful.
Because here’s what happens when we pause:
✨ Our thoughts begin to wander.
✨ Fresh ideas bubble up.
✨ A new kind of clarity shows itself—quiet, but full of potential.
Even our gardens, under all that snow, are doing something similar. Beneath the frozen surface, roots are resting, storing energy. The soil is holding its breath, waiting for spring.
And maybe you’re doing the same.
Maybe you’re standing at the edge of something new—sensing a shift, but not quite ready to move.
That’s okay. That’s more than okay.
This is actually the perfect time to ask yourself:
- What worked well in my garden last summer?
- What change did I keep putting off?
- How do I want my garden to feel this season?
You don’t need to have all the answers right now. Just grab a warm drink, a notebook (or the notes app on your phone), and let your thoughts drift.
Even scribbling down a few ideas can shift your focus toward the garden you actually want.
The one that feels like you.
The one that makes you exhale every time you step outside.
As for me, I’m slowly finding my rhythm again. And I’ve come to appreciate this pause—this in-between time—as part of the garden cycle too.
No rush.
No pressure.
Just space to imagine.
So if your garden is still sleeping under snow, or if your energy is just beginning to return… that’s enough for now.
There’s something quietly beautiful about this time of year—when nothing is urgent, and everything is possible.
Here’s to the dreams beginning to stir. 🌱
